about

This is an absolutely true story, please read all the way through.

In December of 2015, right before Christmas, our good friend Chris McGlothlin was put into a medically induced coma. Our brother suffers from a condition called Gilbert's syndrome… which doesn’t allow the liver to process Billrubin properly. So when he went to the hospital, so they can filter his system out like he has done in the past… they told him that this time was different, that his liver was shut down, and that he had to let them put him in a medically induced coma so that they could give him the attention that he needed. And our dear friend went under, luckily right when his mother got there to tell him that everything would be ok. For the next week, Chris was in the battle of his life, and to be completely honest, it didn't look good. His whole body was yellow and swollen, and he had a breathing tube in that kept him breathing, cause he couldn't do it on his own. His vitals weren't good, his fever was horrible, and the doctors didn't sound very optimistic. I went up there every chance I got to talk to him, and be there for his parents as much as possible. But, again, it didn't look good.

Chris is a very important part of our band. One of our bass player Dylan's best friends… as well as mine. Because, in the past, he has shown that his big heart goes out to others who are in need. And he would do anything to help someone out. The world needs more people like him around. So, with heavy hearts turned toward the situation, we wrote a song for him. Our vocalist, Nate, put the words over a practice recording we made, and the song "Come Back To Us" was born.

After a week of Chris being in the coma, I walked into the ICU room that he was still in to play for him the song we recorded. And, as always, there he laid. No sign of life, and the breathing tube still in keeping him with us. I walked to his side… "Hey buddy, I'm back!"…. And he jumped, as if to be startled… and he very slowly cracked his right eye open, just enough so I could see it was totally red, from the blood vessels bursting from him being so swollen. I said to him, "There you are buddy! You're looking good! This is Vince, my man, do you know who I am?". He very faintly shook his head yes and closed his eye again. I then said "Hey man, the whole band misses you, and we want you to keep fighting… you're doing great! We also wrote you a song… and I want to play it for you now." He laid there motionless again… did this actually just happen? The thought went through my head a few times.

So, I pull out my phone, bring my box account up that my band saves songs on, put it by his ear… and pressed play. He still remained motionless. The song progresses into the pre chorus. "We're right by your side" are the words at that section… and at this point, I'm doing my best to fight back at least some of the tears, because at this point, I actually am right by his side playing this song for him. Then it eventually gets to the chorus.. "even if you have to crawl…Please come back, come back to us!". As soon as that part hit, tears came out of both of our buddy's closed eyes. I wiped them down, and then wiped mine next. A few minutes later, the song was over. And he laid there, motionless again. "Was that just a freak thing?" my mind asked itself. I then said "Well that's your song buddy… Did you like it?", and once again… his eye cracks open, wider this time. And he shakes his head yes, with much more energy then I saw a few minutes before… AND PROCEEDS TO TRY AND GET UP!! Our dear friend was so moved by the love we recorded for him.. That it brought him out of the coma! Knowing the repercussions of him trying to do too much, too quick… I put my hand on his chest, told him to lay back down and relax, and that I would be back. I didn't want to tell him that I was leaving, I felt it was the best idea in this situation. I then was able to go to the waiting room, and let his parents know that their son actually is back with us! This was truly the most magically feeling I've ever had… And that’s coming from someone that has watched his own kids being born!

So, instead of letting this story out as soon as it happened, because the obvious response would be "Well lets hear the song!", we went into Encapsulated Studios in St. Louis and recorded it the right way. If you download "Come Back To Us" now for just 99 cents, half of everything that is brought in will be going back to Chris McGlothlin to pay for medical bills and other cost that came up because of this. This song is also vague enough that it could mean something different to someone else, maybe you have a friend or family member that has any kind of substance abuse problem, and it feels like they aren't with you anymore. This song would also be good to show them that you are still with them too! Spread the love… the world needs more of it. Thank you SO much for your time. And PLEASE PLEASE share!
